Stacey Dooley reveals what it was like when she first started out in the TV world, with her 2008 documentary Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts. The Strictly Come Dancing winner said it was a shock for some that she was “broke” despite being on the small screen. The 31-year-old documents all in her new book, an extract of which she shared a link to on Twitter last week. She said she loved working in high street store Jigsaw, as well as a second clothes shop and pub.

Saying “nothing much happened” after her first programme went out, Stacey said: “I was broke… At one point I had three jobs.”
She commented on her retail job: “I didn’t mind it. It was always exciting when the deliveries came in and all the new gear arrived…
“I loved the camaraderie of working with the other girls and really enjoyed interacting with the customers.”
However, Stacey continued: “People were really surprised when they came into the pub and I served them. ‘I think I’ve seen you on telly, haven’t I?’
