BBC Weather has warned the UK will be hit by snow this weekend with bitterly cold air crashing into the country. BBC Weather forecaster, Ben Rich, warned “cold air coming down from the north” would batter Britain on Sunday potentially bringing snow to lower levels in northern England and Scotland. Speaking on Thursday evening, he said: “It will remain unsettled just as it was today. Quite windy across many parts of the UK, one swirl of cloud, one area of low pressure that brought those unsettled conditions today.

“There is another one waiting in the wings in the Atlantic, between the two notice a clearer slot on our satellite. We are going to bring that clearer slot across the British Isles during tonight. The winds will ease so temperatures are going to dip away.”

Temperatures were expected to plunge to as low as -6C in some parts of Scotland overnight on Thursday before he moved into Friday.

He said: “Our next weather system already making its move during Friday afternoon and outbreaks of patchy rain spreading across many parts of the country.

“Eastern areas probably staying dry through the day, and we are likely to see some snow mixing in over higher ground in Scotland.”
