The release of a new HBO documentary, Leaving Neverland, which details allegations of sexual abuse by the singer, has led to a dip in sales. Streaming and airplay of the superstar singer's music in the US have also shot down, according to initial reports by Nielsen Music. Audio and video streams of Jackson’s music fell by 5 percent in the days following the documentary.
Airplay of his music fell by 13 percent to 5,200 plays across all monitored US terrestrial and satellite radio stations on March 3-5, the Hollywood Reporter said.
Next week’s Billboard charts on March 16 will show if the allegations have had a major impact on his music.
The decline in US sales comes as a stark contrast to the UK which shows his music is still a bestseller on iTunes.
His Number Ones have jumped by 21 places to No44 over the last 24 hours on the UK’s album chart, according to Kworb.net.
