Trolls may have brought Rotten Tomatoes’ audience score down and called on fans to see Alita: Battle Angel instead, but Captain Marvel is still tracking for a huge opening weekend. Deadline reports a $160 million domestic gross is likely, while Screen Daily claims the global box office for Captain Marvel’s first couple of days is only second to Avengers Infinity War in terms of MCU movies. And while Black Panther had an opening weekend of $202 million, Brie Larson’s superhero appears to be tracking ahead of it internationally.
Screen Daily’s Disney sources said: “Captain Marvel was currently pacing ahead of comparable first-instalment MCU films such as Black Panther, Doctor Strange and Ant-Man in most territories.”
While domestically Captain Marvel is unlikely to top Black Panther’s $700 million, perhaps its international appeal could see it not only break $1 billion but also top Black Panther?
