MPs voted on Wednesday to rule out a no deal withdrawal from the European Union after the Prime Minister’s Brexit deal was overwhelmingly rejected on Tuesday evening. Another vote is scheduled to take place on Thursday evening where MPs will vote whether to keep the UK in the EU longer than planned. Explaining the next stages of the Brexit process, and whether Article 50 could be extended, the BBC reporter interrupted the host, John Humphreys.

BBC's Adam Fleming said: “In voting to take no deal off the table, there are only two options, one, you actually vote for the deal, and the deal on the table is the only one there is going to be. The negotiations are over, no more tweaks, no more clarifications.

“Or, the only other option, is leaving with no deal. There is a relative novelty for us who are observing the process on the EU side, though. An EU that doesn’t have a settled position, isn’t entirely sure what to do because they are quite vexed about this question of an extension.

“Throughout this process where we have had guidelines and parameters and red lines carved into stone, it is quite exciting to observe.”

The BBC Brussels reporter added: “The only certainty an extension gives anyone is that it is possible, that it has to be agreed by the departing member state and the remaining 27 and it has to be agreed by unanimity, which means a single member state, even one small thing could lead to the request being rejected.”
