#GameofThronesSeason8: Sean Bean spills all on ‘comic’ death scenes

The actor, who appeared as Ned Stark in season one, was tipped to be the hero of the whole series until his character was killed by Ser Ilyn Payne (played by Wilko Johnson).

His head was then left on a spike outside the Lannister castle as a warning.

Game of Thrones fans were left devastated by his death as the central hero of the gripping first season was brutally executed. 

However, Bean prefers to look at the comedy in filming his execution rather than dwell on what if.

It’s awful what’s happening, and you start giggling and laughing

He said: “We were in Malta; it was very hot. It was very colourful. Everyone was there, and with things like that there’s a sort of gallows humour to it. 

“It’s awful what’s happening, and you start giggling and laughing.

“When the head fell off, there were mistakes. It didn’t quite work out sometimes. It was quite comic. So it breaks the ice a bit.”

What “didn’t quite work out” can be left to the imagination, but there was no doubt in the series Ned definitely was killed. 

The scenes truly shocked fans and gave them a first glimpse of the twists, turns and shocks that were to come in the following seasons.
