Scottish star David, 47, appeared to be struggling with his role during tonight’s Comic Relief Red Nose Day programme on BBC One.

On a number of occasions the guest host jokingly hammed up his inability to grasp his duties for the night, and Strictly Come Dancing’s It Takes Two host Zoe, 48, helpfully stepped in to guide him.

But as the pair’s turn to helm the show came to an explosive end - they had just announced the latest totals of charity money to a pop of confetti on the stage - David reflected on his experience.

Finishing off their run, Zoe asked her co-host: “David have you got anything to say?”

“Yeah,” David answered seriously. “I’m sorry for making one or two mistakes earlier on.

“I’m not really a presenter. But I love Comic Relief, so obviously I said yes I’d do it.”

Zoe nodded along to her co-star’s comments, seemingly agreeing with his lowdown on the evening.
