The Home Secretary warned networks they should be prepared to “face the force of the law” if they are not willing to wipe extremist material from their platforms. Mr Javid, a Tory heavyweight who is seen as a possible future prime minister, was speaking after white supremacist posted a 17-minute video on social media allegedly showing his attacks on two Christchurch mosques. A total of 49 people were killed in attacks on Friday.
After YouTube tweeted a message saying it was heartbroken over the tragedy and was “working vigilantly to remove any violent footage” Mr Javid responded with criticism.
He wrote: “You really need to do more @YouTube @Google @facebook @Twitter to stop violent extremis being promoted on your platforms.
“Take some ownership. Enough is enough.”
He called the video posted online “absolutely repellant” and urged people not to watch it or share it.
