Warnings apply to much of Scotland and Northern Ireland as well as parts of England and Wales.Icy should be expected in these areas, creating slippery conditions underfoot and potentially on roads as well. However as we head into next week the weather is expected to get warner and milder.
Met Office meteorologist Marco Petagna explained: “We’ve got some fairly icy conditions this morning towards the north and northwest of the UK.
“Wintery showers to some snow over the hilltops especially.”
Met Office warnings for ice are in effect for most of Scotland and Northern Ireland, minus some coastal areas, western Wales and a swath of northern England extending down to the midlands.
The Government funded agency warns to expect “ice patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths” leading to “increased likelihood of accidents or injuries”.
