Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh, 42, has confirmed she will be starring in Elf: A Christmas Spectacular later this year following her exit from the soap. The actress said is “excited” to be taking on her new musical role but is also nervous. Spilling all in her weekly column with OK! Magazine, she said: “It’s the first step in a new chapter after Corrie and I’m excited. “It’s nice to have something in the pipeline, as it is a bit nerve-wracking leaving a regular job after 13 years!”

Kym is reported to be starring as Buddy's girlfriend Jovie, which was played by Zooey Deschanel in the hit 2003 movie.

Kym previously told The Sun: “I am delighted to be getting back on stage and joining the cast of Elf this December.

“Elf is an iconic Christmas film and having seen the musical myself last year I am very excited to be part of this fun and heart-warming family show.”

Kym previously teased she had an “exciting” project to look forward to after slamming rumours she is set to sign up for a reality show.

She said: “I want to try different acting roles in other dramas. I’m in talks about future projects, which is exciting.”

She added: “There were reports that I was going to appear in the next series of Strictly or I’m A Celeb… As wonderful as those shows are, I’m not leaving Corrie
