The Pakistani Army reportedly initiated the attack in the Rajouri district, an Indian military official revealed to Sputnik News. The ceasefire violation began around 5.30am and the Indian Army retaliated effectively, The Times of India reported. Mortar bombs and small firearms were used in the attack.
A defence official told The Times of India: “A soldier was killed and three others injured when Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation around 5.30am today. The Indian Army retaliated effectively.”
The attack comes less than a week after Pakistani F-16 fighter jets were reportedly detected on the Line of Control (LoC).
In response to the supersonic aircraft, India put its air defence systems on high alert.
However, the fighter jets were not shot down because they stayed within Pakistani-controlled territory, according to senior officials.
