US car manufacturer Ford is cutting 5,000 jobs in Germany and will also slash its workforce in Britain in an attempt to return to profit in Europe.
The announcement made last week will see voluntary redundancy programmes for employees in Germany and Britain.
An exact amount of how many jobs will be cut in the UK is ‘is still to be determined’ the carmaker said in a statement but it is believed to be in the region of around 1,150.
In a statement released on Friday, the brand said: “Through these programmes and other initiatives, Ford of Germany expects to reduce its headcount in excess of 5,000 jobs, including temporary staff.
