The Chaser, 60, saw the humour in a tweet from one fan which shared a picture of one of Nigel Farage’s supporters, who they claimed resembled Anne Hegerty, at the Brexit march. “You should be ashamed of yourself @anne_hegerty, supporting Farage,” the fan joked. “Thought you were better than that.” Seeing the funny side, The Chase quizzer hit back lightheartedly: “Go to Specsavers,” also adding a laughing emoji in view of her 117,000 Twitter followers.
However, another of Anne’s fans seemed to feel the need to defend her, jumping in to say: “Whether that was Anne of not (I realise it wasn’t), all people have a right to personal political opinions, regardless of what they actually are (provided they’re not extremist views).
“People have a right to support any political party or any politician they want.”
“Nigel Farage isn’t a politician and is an extremist of the a***hole variety,” the first Twitter user hit back. “Anne agrees with me.
“Go and get some protein down ya. You’re boring us.”(sic)
Tensions rising, the second fan snapped: “He’s an MEP, so yes, he is a politician. @anne_hegerty, whatever your views are (which are your own business), don’t respond to this troll anymore. I certainly won’t be.
