The incendiary claim was made by BBC Newsnight’s political editor Nicholas Watt. If this happens Parliament could dilute Brexit, so the UK remains in a customs union or single market with the EU. Britain’s ability to sign comprehensive trade deals after EU exit will consequently be greatly reduced.
Mr Watt commented: “I understand that tomorrow a cross-party group are going to table an amendment to a motion that’s due to be put back down by the government on Monday.
“What this would do is seize control of the commons order paper on Wednesday for a series of indicative votes on Brexit alternatives.
“I understand this group are very close to agreeing a text with Jeremy Corbyn.”
Theresa May wrote to Brussels yesterday formally requesting a delay in the Brexit process until June 30.
