Quizzer Jenny Ryan, 36, faced a different kind of questioning from a fan of The Chase who had spotted an intriguing fact about Mark Labbett’s nickname, The Beast, on the ITV game show. “I will tweet this every day until I get an answer, because this is just one of those things that I just can’t die not knowing the answer to,” one of her 45,000 Twitter followers said. “Is @MarkLabbett called ‘The Beast’ because his last name is Labbett, and in French ‘la bête’ means ‘The Beast’?” The fan also attached a picture of a Google search for the English to French translation of The Beast, which did indeed showed the term’s similarity to 53-year-old Mark’s surname.
“You could just ask @MarkLabbett,” Jenny replied. “He knows better than I do.”
Sounding despairing, The Chase viewer wrote back: “I’ve asked many times, just never got an answer.
“And I’m just so curious as to whether that’s actually the reason because if it is then that’s actually so clever.”
Last year, Express.co.uk reported the connection between the surname and the French term for ‘The Beast’.
