Former Emmerdale star Maxwell Caulfield played Mark Wylde between 2009 and 2010, however he has now said he thinks his character was axed “too soon”. The actor arrived in the soap a decade ago back in January before his alter ego was murdered by his first wife Natasha (played by Amanda Donohoe) a year later. The 59-year-old’s on-screen death came about after it came out that he was bigamist and he had another family in secret. He has since said the Wylde family had “fantastic potential” but that those behind the storylines focussed on Mark’s bigamy for too long.

In an interview with Inside Soap, Maxwell started: “Emmerdale killed me off too soon! I'm sure each actor you speak to says, 'Oh yes, I was in it during a golden era of the show!', but I do think the Wylde family was broken up too soon.
“They had fantastic potential.”
