Police confirm they have found body of #libbysquire missing student

Lisa and Russell Squire were warned to "expect the worst" after remains were found in the Humber Estuary onWednesday afternoon. Yesterday, police told the Squires they had found Libby, 21, close to Grimsby Docks. Her body was retrieved by a lifeboat crew from Cleethorpes and taken ashore.

Following the lifeboat's arrival at docks near Grimsby fish market at around 3pm, a police forensics team arrived and sealed off a large area.

Detective Superintendent Martin Smalley of Humberside Police said: "Formal identification has now taken place and we can confirm the body recovered is that of Libby Squire."

Mrs Squire, 48, her husband, 53, and Libby's three younger siblings were being comforted by relatives and specially trained police officers at their home in High Wycombe, Bucks, last night.

University of Hull philosophy undergraduate Libby had been missing since February 1. University vice-chancellor Professor Susan Lea said: "We are all absolutely devastated. Our hearts go out to Libby's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time and we will continue to give them our full support.

"We have been incredibly moved by the way staff, students, Humberside Police and the local community have all come together over the past few weeks.

"The kindness and care everyone has shown towards each other has been overwhelming."

A visitor to the peninsula, where the estuary meets the North Sea, reported seeing a body in the waves onWednesday afternoon and a lifeboat was launched.

There had been questions over its identity because police were involved in two other missing persons inquiries.
