The season finale of The Walking Dead season 9 has been slated by some fans, who anticipated a huge surprise at the end of the series.
Episode 15, titled The Storm, saw a harsh blizzard thrash the people of The Kingdom as they followed the King and Queen to the Hilltop.
Once they reached the top of the hill and the storm passed their friends opened the gates to let them pass, meanwhile, the Whisperers lurked in the shadows.
But their journey up the hill was only a small part of the show, as King Ezekiel (Khary Payton) made contact with a mystery person via radio communication.
All radio communication ceased when the blizzard came and the power went out, but once the weather cleared it returned.
At the end of the episode Ezekiel, who was situated at the Hilltop, spoke with Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming) at Alexandria via the radio.
When they signed off the King left his seat briefly and a voice emerged through the static, which was initially muffled.
Eventually a female sounding voice could be heard asking, “Is anybody out there?”
In the comics Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt) makes contact with the person on the other end of the radio instead of Ezekiel.
Eugene spoke to a woman named Stephanie, who is a member of the Commonwealth, one of the communities based in Ohio which creators of The Walking Dead are said to be working on.
