Chief executive Juergen Maier said he could no longer recommend Britain to his board of directors – a situation mirrored across the business sector – and that Westminster’s appalling failure to effect a viable Brexit was already making the British people and British businesses poorer. The 55-year-old Austrian, who has lived in Britain for more than 40 years, said: “The world is watching, and where the UK used to be beacon for stability, we are now becoming a laughing stock. “People’s livelihoods are at stake, and our reputation as a country for stable and sound business investments could be in tatters by the end of the week if you fail.”
He warned MP’s ahead of today’s further attempt to get some sort of workable Brexit consensus in parliament “enough is enough” and urged them to back a customs union with the EU to bring an end to the “exhausting” Brexit impasse.
