Chief executive Juergen Maier said he could no longer recommend Britain to his board of directors – a situation mirrored across the business sector – and that Westminster’s appalling failure to effect a viable Brexit was already making the British people and British businesses poorer. The 55-year-old Austrian, who has lived in Britain for more than 40 years, said: “The world is watching, and where the UK used to be beacon for stability, we are now becoming a laughing stock. “People’s livelihoods are at stake, and our reputation as a country for stable and sound business investments could be in tatters by the end of the week if you fail.”
