Ruby (played by Louisa Lytton) has been gripped in the midst of the fallout from her tragic rape ordeal on EastEnders in recent weeks, leading her to be confused over her feelings for funeral director Jay (Jamie Borthwick).
The young lovebirds got together after Ruby’s ordeal at the hands of Ross Swinden (Ossian Luke) and Matt Clarkson (Mitchell Hunt), with Jay comforting and helping the savvy businesswoman to regain her confidence.
However, when it seemed Ruby was going to lose her trial, the BBC soap character pushed Jay away with the pair having a frosty relationship in recent weeks amid the rape trial which will play out over the coming week.
Though, with the two young lovebirds still wanting to pursue something with one another, the return of Jay’s ex and former Walford blonde Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) could set the cat amongst the pigeons and leave Ruby fighting for her man.
Lola will return alongside Phil Mitchell’s (Steve McFadden) and Jay’s best friend Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) with the pair’s daughter in tow, although it’s not yet known what brings the cousins back to the Square.
However, old feelings could resurface between the funeral director and the young mother as they come face-to-face after four years, possibly plunging Jay back into another love triangle with Lola.
Before Lola left the Square to start a new life with her daughter away from Walford, Jay was torn between the blonde and Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald) before eventually starting a romance with the returning character.
Their relationship came to a sour end however when Lola left Walford without the funeral director although they’d planned to leave together, with the young mother sending a message to Jay to tell him she had moved on with someone else.
Although things didn’t end on the best of terms, Jay’s rocky relationship with Ruby could lead him to turn to Lola on her return, with actor Jamie Borthwick, 24, hinting a romance between the former lovebirds could be on the table.
Speaking to Metro about Jay’s reaction to Lola’s return and the dilemma over Ruby, Jamie said: “All of a sudden Lola comes in like a whirlwind and some of those old feelings kind of creep back up again and it all kicks off
