There are no strict rules when it comes to Instagram etiquette, with who you follow usually depending on personal choice. While some people decide to treat everyone to a follow back, others are more selective in who they get direct updates from via the social media account. Then, of course, there are some Instagram users who opt to only follow their other half. At the time of writing, Melania Trump, 48, does not follow Ivanka Trump, 37, on her official social media account.
On the other hand, the American businesswoman does keep up with what her stepmother gets up to, by following her official @FLOTUS handle.
It's not known whether any of the Trump family have their own private accounts which they use to stay in contact with friends and family.
So, is there a particular reason why Melania hasn’t reciprocated the gesture on her official Instagram platform?
It seems that there is - and it’s not thought to be a social media snub.
In fact, Melania, who has 2.9 million Instagram followers, appears to have deliberately restricted the amount of people she follows on the platform.
Instead of receiving posts from lots of people, the mother-of-one is following just one person - and that’s her husband, Donald Trump, 72.
The decision to devote her news feed to just the father-of-five may be seen as a romantic gesture to her spouse, or to avoid any potential awkward moments which could arise by not following other famous faces.

And, that could explain why Ivanka, and the rest of Donald’s children, aren’t followed by the First Lady on Instagram.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has decided to limit the amount of updates he gets online too - following just eight users on Instagram.
These include his wife, as well as the four of his children who are known to have public Instagram accounts: Eric Trump, 35, Tiffany Trump, 25, and Donald Trump Jr, 41, as well as Ivanka.
