On Tuesday the Prime Minister dramatically announced she would seek an additional Article 50 extension, delaying Brexit, in order to avoid a no deal exit. She also invited Mr Corbyn for talks, angering elements within her own party who fear this will lead to the UK joining a European customs union. Speaking on BBC Newsnight Mr Dale commented: “She didn’t have to do this.

“When I heard that she had done it my immediate conclusion was the only result, if it works, will be that Britain stays in a customs union.

“That would split the Conservative Party even more than its already split.

“I think people across the party could not accept staying in the customs union, which would mean Britain having no control over its trade policy.”
