Dan Walker, 42, took to Twitter to clarify exactly what the Prime Minister Theresa May gave to her Cabinet during their Brexit discussions. The BBC Breakfast presenter wrote: “Great to discuss all things #Brexit with @tnewtondunn & @NicolaRBartlett but... I still need to clear this up Tom... “Did Theresa May give the cabinet ‘cheap chilli & red wine’ or ‘cheap Chilean red wine’?” He finished: “@louiseminchin says I may have got the wrong end of the bottle,” followed by a crying face emoji.

The journalist added a picture of a dish which appeared to be a chilli soup.

His question comes after the BBC favourite and his co-star Louise Minchin, 50, were joined on the breakfast sofa earlier this week with political correspondents Tom Newton Dunn and Nicola Bartlett to discuss the furore around Brexit.

Political editor Tom took the opportunity to confirm it was in fact “cheap Chilean wine” but apologised to the BBC host for “causing trouble”.

He replied: “Or even cheap, chilly-and-red wine (ie, overly cooled)? I can confirm it was cheap, Chilean red wine.

“Wouldn’t never have brought it up if I realised the sofa trouble I’ve caused. Sorry.”
