New #CoronationStreet family to rock Weatherfield in BIG #Corrie shake-up

The Bailey family will consist of four newcomers to Coronation Street; father Edison (played by Trevor Michael Georges), over-protective mother Aggie (Lorna Laidlow), the eldest of their three children Michael (Ryan Russell) and their youngest James (Nathan Graham).

Arriving in Weatherfield in scenes to broadcast on the ITV soap this June, the Baileys will become the new occupants of Number Three, with stalwart Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden) set to sell the property in the coming weeks.

This will be the first time the cobbles have witnessed a family arriving all together since the Windass’ took Weatherfield by storm more than 10 years ago and Gary Windass’ (Mikey North) current plot will become the pinpoint for the Baileys to arrive.

Although several multicultural families have come and gone from the cobbles, including the Nazir family in 2013, this will be the first time a black family has graced Coronation Street with the family set to become immediate fan-favourites.

They’re just a really authentic family

Iain MacLeod

Speaking about the introduction of the Baileys to Weatherfield and his decision to cast a black family, Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod told press including Express.co.uk: “I do think it’s important the North West and Great Britain as a whole is a big melting pot of people from different backgrounds and ethnicities and the more representative we can make Corrie of Manchester and Britain, the better really.

“They’re all individually funny as well as they’ve got a brilliant, as you’ll see when they arrive on screen, brilliant chemistry between them as well.

“They’re just a really authentic family that love each other.”

Head of the family, Edison, also known as Ed, will become the new owner of the Grimshaw’s builder’s years as Gary’s money troubles reach a head later this year, but viewers will see the first member of the family arrive in the form of budding footballer, James.

However, it soon becomes clear the 19-year-old has a secret when it’s revealed he is gay but has not yet told his family or his team members at Weatherfield County.
