The Bailey family will consist of four newcomers to Coronation Street; father Edison (played by Trevor Michael Georges), over-protective mother Aggie (Lorna Laidlow), the eldest of their three children Michael (Ryan Russell) and their youngest James (Nathan Graham). Arriving in Weatherfield in scenes to broadcast on the ITV soap this June, the Baileys will become the new occupants of Number Three, with stalwart Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden) set to sell the property in the coming weeks. This will be the first time the cobbles have witnessed a family arriving all together since the Windass’ took Weatherfield by storm more than 10 years ago and Gary Windass’ (Mikey North) current plot will become the pinpoint for the Baileys to arrive. Although several multicultural families have come and gone from the cobbles, including the Nazir family in 2013, this will be the first time a black family has graced Coronation Street with the family set to become immediate fan-favourites. However, it soon becomes clear the 19-year-old has a secret when it’s revealed he is gay but has not yet told his family or his team members at Weatherfield County. Arriving as such a tight-knit family, actor Nathan Graham who will play the youngster said of James not sharing his secret: “He might not be ready to share that information with this family. He knows within himself he is gay, and he’s cool with that.” Coronation Street spoilers: New family to rock Weatherfield in BIG ITV soap shake-up (Image: ITV) Coronation Street spoilers: Edison Bailey will be played by Trevor Michael Georges (Image: ITV) Nathan continued: “You can be a close-knit family, but everyone has their own secrets.” The storyline will be long-running in the first instance as the family settle in Weatherfield, as the soap also undertakes an issue-based storyline, looking at homophobia in sport. Discussing James’ secret, Iain said: “We wanted to look at a modern story of a young gay man. So, it won’t be your normal coming out story where we see James wrestling with his sexuality. “We were quite keen he knows who he is but has some apprehensiveness about telling his parents, has a lot of apprehensiveness about his team mates potentially finding out.” However, although there is a secret lingering within the family, they will arrive in quite mischievous circumstances, with their neighbours not realising they’re new residents. Speaking of Diana’s role in the family, Iain said: “We don’t meet her just yet but in age terms, she’s halfway between James and Michael. “She’s called Diana after Princess Diana. Her birth will have roughly coincided with the death of Princess Diana.” With the arrival of the Baileys a couple of months away, viewers will be kept on their toes over the continuing Underworld factory roof collapse which could see boss Carla Connor (Alison King) homeless as she battles with her mental health.
