Passports are already changing in appearance – despite the chaotic uncertainty of the UK’s Brexit negotiations. The government has previously confirmed blue-covered passports, which many believed would come into force as soon as the UK separated from the EU, will be on a delay. Yesterday, it was revealed the gold-font words ‘European Union’ have now been edited off the top of the passport cover. One Briton took to Twitter to reveal her new travel document was without the phasing and quizzed: “How can this be? UK is still a member.”

The UK’s Brexit date was initially pushed back until April 12, but UK Prime Minister Theresa May has now requested a further extension until June 30 to allow time for her deal to be passed through the Commons.

Yet despite the new look, the procedure for Britons ordering and applying for their new documents is the same.

Travellers can apply either using the postal service from the post office or online, with the former costing £85 and the latter £75.50.

Adult passports apply for those aged 16 or over, and there is a separate process for child passports.
