#GameOfThronesSeason8 bosses reveal what they left out of the finale's battles

Game of Thrones fans will no-doubt remember the incredible “Battle of the B******s” episode in season seven which saw Jon Snow (played by Jon Snow) and Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) pitting their armies against one-another.

And although the episode is one of the best-loved events of the show so far, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss do not think huge battles are the most interesting things to show on TV.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Benioff said: “Having the largest battle doesn’t sound very exciting – it actually sounds pretty boring.

“Part of our challenge, and really Miguel’s challenge, is how to keep that compelling. If it’s just humans hacking and slashing at wights for 55 minutes, it’s going to quickly become dull.”

He went on to add that, although the budget for the show has increased, that doesn’t mean the battles are going to instantly become more interesting.

Benioff explained: “It always comes back to what’s best for the story.

“We’ve been building toward this since the very beginning and it’s the living against the dead, and you can’t do that in a 12-minute sequence."

So then, fans already know they can expect a huge amount of fighting in the upcoming final season, but how are the duo keeping the upcoming battles interesting just like season seven’s flagship episode?

“The best action is driven by character,” they continued. “Not by how many swords and spears you can swing around. It’s driven by who is Arya Stark [Maisie Williams]?
