The Foreign Secretary warned that if the party did not deliver Brexit to the public, a general election would be hugely damaging for the party as Theresa May looks to gain a further extension to Brexit. Mr Hunt’s comments come as Theresa May has visited Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron in order to gain support for an extension to Brexit. Speaking on the show Mr Hunt said: “It would be catastrophic for us to face the people again in a general election if we have not delivered Brexit.
“Brexit was out central promise during the last election.”
With the UK now passed the original exit date of March 29, Mrs May has faced heavy pressure from outside and even within her own party as she has failed to deliver on the referendum result.
The Prime Minister has already agreed to an extension date of April 12 if her deal is not accepted and May 22 if it is.
In order to try and gain support for her deal, Mrs May announced to MPs that she would step down from Government if her deal is passed.
