Rebels launched a no-confidence motion in Mrs May in December 2018, which she won, meaning they are unable to try again until December 2019. However, the dogged Prime Minister has managed to cause fresh outrage following her talks with Jeremy Corbyn about a potential customs union compromise.

In retaliation, a group of unnamed MPs have called on their association chairman to gather signatures to push through a rule change under schedule 9 of the Conservative Party Constitution, according to the Telegraph.

It states that party rules can be changed with a petition signed by 10,000 members.
