Emily Thornberry had to be brought back on track twice after she failed to clarify whether she welcomed the Brexit extension. BBC Any Questions? presenter Jonathan Dimbleby was forced to interrupt the shadow Foreign Secretary twice after she began to "rehash" her complaints about the handling of the negotiations with the European Union by the Prime Minister. Mr Dimbleby said: "We are in rehashing territory when you say that. A long preamble before a long election speech.
"If you come to the point of the question, as you very well understand, Emily. The EU Brexit extension, do you regard it as a good thing or as a noose?"
After Ms Thornberry once again launched on a spiel insisting Britain would not have to take part in European parliamentary elections if the Government had agreed to a compromise with Parliament, the BBC presenter cut her off for the second time.
Mr Dimbleby continued: "I’m sorry, we do have a limited amount of time, Emily
The fact is, everyone knows either there has to be a deal before those elections or there will be elections. Whether or not they could have been avoided, in a sense, is neither here nor there."
