Norris (played by Malcolm Hebden) will make his way back to Coronation Street soon to as he hands over the deeds to Number Three to the Bailey family, who will be arriving in Weatherfield later this year.

Actor Malcolm Hebden, 78, has been absent from the ITV soap for over a year after a bout of ill-heath saw the star suffer a heart attack, leading him to take an extended break from his duties as the no nonsense gossip.

However, Norris’ return, although short, will be comical and emotional as current occupant of Number Three Mary (Patti Claire) will be told she has to vacate the premises to make way for the new owners.

Though, longtime fans of the show will know Norris used to live in the property with fellow stalwart Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) but she won’t be returning to bid farewell to her home as Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod revealed there are no plans to bring the icon back to the cobbles.

Speaking of the storyline Norris’ return to the street, Iain told press including Express.co.uk: “100 per cent Norris is not leaving the show.

“We just thought given the circumstances that we find ourselves in, it made sense to put a new family in Number Three.

“It’s certainly not the end of Norris,” the executive producer confirmed, before going on to explain Emily’s departure from the soap.

Iain said: “I’m in talks fairly regularly with Eileen [Derbyshire], but at the moment, there’s no plans for her to return.

However, Iain explained: “Again, the door's certainly not closed there,” after Emily was last seen on the cobbles in January 2016 before deciding to undertake some volunteer work in Peru alongside her nephew and now urgently residing with her niece in Scotland.
