Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are about to become parents for the first time. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed this week that they would not be unveiling their plans surrounding the birth of their royal baby. The statement released by Buckingham Palace also stated that the couple would enjoy the arrival of the newborn privately, before sharing the news with the world. As Meghan, 37, and Prince Harry, 34, prepare for their new roles as a mother and father, We-Vibe’s relationship expert Dr Becky Spelman has shared some top tips with Express.co.uk.

With the Sussex duo about to become parents, the psychologist addressed the red flags they may need to be aware of during their maternity and paternity leave.

Dr Becky’s first top tip saw her warn the royal duo not to “take on too much” during the early stages of the youngster’s life.

“Above all, like any other couple, they should be careful not to take on too much, and to take as much time as they need to bond with their little one and with one another,” she said.

This advice will apply to many new parents, but Dr Becky pointed out that the fact that they are senior members of the Royal Family, would likely mean they’ll face a huge amount of pressure to pose for photographs which will be shared across the world.

For Dr Becky, doing this sooner rather than later could help to relieve this pressure.

She explained: “There will be a lot of pressure on them to appear at photo ops, and it would probably be a good idea to get one or two out of the way so that they can retreat to their private space unbothered by the media.”

But, while the relationship expert did advocate posing for a snap or two, she was quick to point out that it would then be a good idea to then take a step back from the limelight, and enjoy the first moments that they have with the youngster in peace and quiet.

“However, the first days and weeks with a new baby are crucial, and they should surround themselves with tranquillity and only spend extensive periods of time with family members and friends who are supportive and kind,” Dr Becky advised.

“It may be hard to resist putting a photo or two on social media, but they would be well-advised to put away all their devices and just focus on their baby, and on the physical and emotional needs of the new family unit.”

It may be that Prince Harry and Meghan do take to Instagram to share a snap of the youngster, having recently set up their own joint public account: @sussexroyal.

Last year, Princess Madeleine of Sweden took to Instagram to unveil the first glimpse of her first child.
