Game of Thrones season eight will contain six episodes

Game of Thrones season 8 has been confirmed to be the final series of the long-running HBO series, however, fans can rest assured that it will not be the last we see or hear of characters based on the books by George R.R. Martin. The eighth and final series of Game of Thrones will air on HBO on Sunday, April 14 in America. Sky Atlantic and NOW TV subscribers can watch the series the following day at 2am BST (actually the same time as in the US). Sky Atlantic will repeat the episode at 9pm each Monday for those who missed the original broadcast.

Going forward, HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK will be doing weekly Transatlantic simulcasts, so the show will be airing at the same time in both regions. Game of Thrones fans can then find out whether the Night King (played by Vladimir Furdik) will make it onto the Iron Throne.

For those who can't wait, Game of Thrones season eight has released its first trailer, showing new footage from the series. 

Fans also got a glimpse of what's to come after HBO dropped the first look pictures from Game of Thrones season eight.

Game of Thrones season eight will contain six episodes, making it the shortest series but some of the episode run times will be longer to compensate.

Will there be a Game of Thrones movie?

Reports of a Game of Thrones movie are sadly not true at this moment in time.

While producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss had the idea to do Game of Thrones' final six episodes as three separate feature-length films in order to achieve the scale and budget for the ending that they had in mind, it was not to be.
