Brexit supporter Andrew Bridgen, Conservative MP for North West Leicestershire, said the remarks from Labour MP David Lammy were “embarrassing”. On BBC’s Andrew Marr Show on Sunday, Mr Lammy defended comparing some members of the Tory Party’s ERG to Nazis. Asked about the comments on talkRADIO, Mr Bridgen said: “I just can't believe David Lammy could come out with something as ludicrous as that. As far as I am concerned, I am not far-right. I believe in democracy, we have had a referendum.
“I also believe in sticking by manifesto pledges that we will come out of the single market and customs union, the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice.
“I think if politicians want to regain the support of the people we have to deliver on our promises and we are failing to do that at the moment, and you are seeing the repercussions of that for Conservative Party support. Surely, that is what should happen to any political party that does not stick to its manifesto promises."
He added: “It's insulting. I'm embarrassed for him actually.
“The European Research Group is not a homogeneous group, it’s a group of MPs who believe in Brexit and on the mandate of the promises we made to the British people.
