Moment EU Parliament laughs at Theresa May – 'Prime Minister still committed ...

Theresa May last week agreed to delay Brexit for the second time until October 31 after repeated attempts to have her withdrawal agreement pass through the Commons. Tory MEP Syed Kamall insisted the British Government remained devoted to ensuring Britain will leave the European Union but his claim was met with the derision of his colleagues in the European Parliament. Addressing European MEPs in Strasbourg on Tuesday, Mr Kamall said: "Many of us had hoped that we wouldn’t have had this debate today and that the UK would have left the EU on March 29, or even last week.

"But we have to deal with life as it is. The British Government is still committed to delivering Brexit in an orderly way and leaving the European Union as soon as possible so that the people in the UK and the EU can focus on the future."

As Mr Kamall reiterated the Government's commitment to breaking ties with Brussels other MEPs could be heard laughing in the background.

The London MEP continued: "I realise your patience as worn thin and that you look and wonder what is happening in Westminster.

"But EU membership has been a division issue in our country for many years, not just in my party but in the main opposition party, too. You can see these divisions playing out."
