Increasingly, budget airlines such as Ryanair are ramping up their regulations for free baggage, meaning airline passengers may have even less space for their belongings. They can of course pay to put a bag in the hold. Yet with these extra fees often proving costly many opt for savvy packing hacks instead.

A spokesperson for Mybaggage.com told Express.co.uk how it was “too easy” for travellers to over pack.

As a way to address this, they put forward using a handy everyday item, commonplace in many homes, to store cosmetics and creams.

They suggested keeping old compact contact lens cases before jetting away, so passengers can fill them with creams and serums.

The spokesperson said: “Contact lens cases are great for taking your favourite face creams.

“You should have just enough for your sunshine break.”
