Party chairmen have been encouraging MPs to sign a petition calling for a National Convention to oust the party leader, the Daily Telegraph reported. The Conservatives must hold the meeting if the petition is signed by more than 65 association chairmen. Up to 50 chairmen have reportedly signed it so far.
The EGM will be a first in the party’s history, Dinah Glover, the London East area chairman said.
Ms Glover said: “There is a lot of frustration and anger within the party.
“This is a route that we have to demonstrate those feelings so we can encourage MPs to make those feelings known.
“It would allow MPs to “make their feelings known as well so they understand the level of anger, not only in the voluntary party but across the elected members as well.
