The Kremlin announced a three-year deal for “establishing cooperation on the construction of a nuclear power plant” with Ethiopia this week. The project was confirmed at the Atomexpo gathering in Sochi on Monday as the US and Russia embark on a raft of nuclear projects on opposite sides of the Red Sea. Russia has sought to develop ties with the country which is in the strategic position in the Horn of Africa.
Even more importantly, Russian nuclear companies also signed memorandums of understanding with Egypt on Tuesday.
Speaking following the agreement with the African country, a statement from Moscow’s state-run Rosatom said: “The roadmap determines specific steps in strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of peaceful use of atomic energy.
“The parties plan have identified joint actions within the framework of NPP construction and CNST construction projects.
“Thus, a foundation is laid for training personnel and raising public awareness about atomic energy.”
