Dan Walker was in the firing line yesterday after retweeting footage of the Notre Dame Cathedral fire on Twitter. The 42-year-old journalist shared a video of the devastating disaster with 559,000 followers as he reacted to the destruction of the 12th century building. Commenting on the distressing visuals which saw the cathedral engulfed in flames, he wrote: “How grim to watch.” Seconding his sentiment, a social media user replied: “Absolutely devastating,” as another posted: “It was very sad and shocking.”
third individual penned: “Very, very sad to see. A miracle that only one person was injured. Wishing the firefighter a very speedy recovery.”
Someone else reflected: “Heartbreaking - [I] have some treasured memories of going to the top of the bell tower in February.”
However, a fifth commentator questioned why Dan had decided to repost the video, given the sensitivity of the footage.
They asked: “Yet you’ve retweeted it for all of us to watch?”
