Tony Blair admitted Britain cannot continue to "hold referenda" until British voters change their mind on Brexit as he was put on the spot over his support for a second referendum. The former Labour Prime Minister, who has long been a supporter of the European Union project, over the last three years has become an outspoken supporter of plans to have a new vote on the final terms of the withdrawal deal. But 60 Minutes host Sarah Abo challenged Mr Blair on whether Leave voters may seek a re-run of the vote as a "betrayal" of their choice. Mr Blair attempted to claim a second referendum would allow British voters to make a decision on membership of the EU based on the extra information gathered during the two years of negotiations with Brussels. Ms Abo continued: "That sounds hopeful and optimistic but you can’t really keep holding a referendum until you get the results you want." The former Prime Minister replied: "No, of course not." He continued: "I think it is possible now. "I think, finally, the Prime Minister will pivot towards putting the proper options before Parliament and once that happens, Parliament is going to say ‘ok, we may decide the form of Brexit but the people should have the final say in a confirmatory referendum.’ "We’ve had three years of experiencing what Brexit really means, you’ve got this mess." He added: "With this magnitude of the decision it is not unreasonable to say to people ‘do you want to think again?’" Related articles Germany CRISIS: Bavaria could face damages worth BILLIONS from Brexit Brexit LIVE: Tory MPs plot to use ‘little-known’ rule to OUST May Brexit news: May will have until October 31 to find a deal but may leave as soon as one is found (Image: EXPRESS.CO.UK) The decision to postpone Brexit further has pushed Tory supporters to go on a "donor strike", forcing Sir Mick Davis - the chief executive and treasurer of the Conservative Party - to "reach into his own pocket" to fund the electoral campaign for the European election. A Tory source on Wednesday told The Times: "Mick Davis is having to reach into his own pocket to fund campaigning, at least up front. "Hopefully we'll recoup it later but Mick had to tell Cabinet recently about the dire funding situation, particularly among Remain-leaning donors, because of the situation on Brexit." Theresa May is also facing the prospect of a no-confidence vote moved by the National Conservative Convention, the organisation reuniting grassroots movements. Party chairmen are circulating a petition calling for an “extraordinary general meeting” which will have to be held if signed by more than 65 association chairmen. Between 40 and 50 party chairmen have already signed it. Dinah Glover, the East of London area chairman, has organised the petition addressing Mrs May as no longer the “right person” to lead the country out of the European Union. All rights reserved for this news site express.co.uk and under his responsibility
