Game of Thrones season eight got off to an action-packed start wth episode one, Winterfell, on Sunday, April 14. In one scene, Arya Stark (played by Maisie Williams) asked old pal and blacksmith Gendry (Joe Dempsie) to make her a specific weapon from dragonglass. Here’s all the details on what the weapon could be and why Arya asked Gendry to make it.

Game of Thrones’ season eight premiere saw Arya ask blacksmith Gendry to make her a specific weapon as Winterfell prepared for the battle against the White Walkers.

Gendry seemed perplexed by the proposal, asking Arya: “What do you need something like this for?”

Arya kept her answer a secret, replying: “Can you make it or not?”

HBO and Sky Atlantic viewers only caught a glimpse at the drawing of the weapon, but that was enough for theories surrounding what it was to surface.

GOT fans soon took online to suggest what it could and one specific theory prevailed.

The weapon is thought to be some sort of spear with detachable properties.

The diagram shows Arya wants it made with dragonglass, a material White Walkers are vulnerable to.

Whether the spear could be attached to Arya’s Valyrian steel dagger is left open to debate, but does seem likely.

If so, this would allow the possibility of detaching the completed spear and having two weapons capable of killing the dead.

Game of Thrones’ weapon master, Tommy Dunne, has previously hinted that Arya’s weapon could be a showstopper.

Dunne told Vanity Fair’s Still Watching podcast: There is one creation in season eight that is absolutely phenomenal.
