How have the Extinction Rebellion group vowed to disrupt flights at Heathrow over the weekend?

The group has pledged to ramp up its several “non violence disobedience” protests this Easter weekend, starting on Friday.

Members said they would “raise the bar” in threats to “shut down” the busy transport hub.

In a statement, the group said: "There is a deep remorse for those whose holiday and family plans will be disrupted. It is not our intention to cause further separation.” Messages seen by the Evening Standard suggested they would meed at a petrol station at 8am before taking action.

Portestors outside Heathrwo Airport were filmed bursting into tears as they failed to disrup the airport's busy Easter schedule.

One held a banner whcih read: "Are we the last generation" while abother confessed in an interview with LBC: "This is more of a symbolic protest to show the fear... the love that we have for this planet.

"I'm not afraid of arrest, I'm afraid of the future of this planet."

Heathrow Airport comnfirmed there were no disrutions on-site, and Tweeted: "We can confirm traffic is flowing and we currently have no disruptions around Heathrow. Thank you."

Heathrow Aiurport updated passengers aftert the polcie action, with a message on its Twitter page.

It read: "UPDATE: an important message to passengers following protest activity this weekend.

"Following earlier protest activity wr continue to work with the authorities to address any threat of protests which could cause disruption for passengers.

“Heathrow is currently operating normally.

“While we respect the right to a peaceful protest and agree with the need to act on climate change, we don’t agree that passengers should have their well earned Easter break with family and friends disrupted."

Police have blocked protestors attemping to reach Heathrow.

About 20 protestors gathered next to a roundabout between terminals two and three with a banner reading "are we the last generation?" but all roads remain open.
