Former #Springwatch presenter reveals real reason they QUIT #BBC show - ...

Kate, 50, alongside Bill Oddie, 77, are two of the most iconic faces of Springwatch, having presented the show alongside each other since its inception in 2005.

After ten years commitment as host of the BBC series, Kate stepped down from her role as presenter, but has remained within the wildlife television remit, hosting shows such as Animal Park.

With Springwatch, Autumnwatch and Winterwatch still a hit with viewers, a new batch of presenters are now educating fans of the show about what wildlife lurks in their gardens and beyond.

Chris Packham, 57, and Michaela Strachan, 53, now taking over the reins from Bill and Kate, the later has explained why she decided it was time for a new set of faces to front the show.

They all need constantly tweaking

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Kate explained: “I absolutely loved doing the watches and I did Springwatch before Springwatch was Springwatch.

“I did Springwatch for 10 years and there’s a thing about any career which is do something every day that scares you and the thing about Springwatch, there was two reasons I decided to stop working on Springwatch.

“The first was, it didn’t scare me anymore. I loved it, I loved working with Chris Packham who is just a genius, but I need to push myself.

“I’m just one of those people that professionally and not in my working life, I like to challenge myself, I like to scare myself, I like to be not too comfortable,” the former presenter revealed.

However, Kate had another reason for hanging up her duties to the show, as she opined: “The thing about any television programme is they all need refreshing.

“They all need constantly tweaking or otherwise, they get stuck in their ways. I knew by leaving, I was actually helping the watches have another lease of life.”
