Professor of Criminology at Loughborough University Steve Case criticised London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s approach to knife crime and insisted that he was using the issue for his own political gain. Mr Case argued that the Mayor of London misunderstood how to address the knife crime issue and in turn has looked for a quick fix to the knife crime problem despite the clear long term complexities. He added that by focussing on the short term ways to address the knife crime problem, Mr Khan can be seen to be “doing something” about the problem which he can then use for his political benefit.
In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, the professor explained: “I would say it might not be a mistake in the sense that is a misunderstanding by Sadiq Khan.
“I think it might be a deliberate political ploy, a politically expedient explanation to be able to have a quick win.
“To be seen to tackle the problem in the short term when really it is a longer-term problem that has been exacerbated by Government policy.
“So I think it might be a deliberate strategy.
