Ted Hastings (played by Adrain Dunbar) was left reeling at the beginning of tonight’s Line of Duty after his wife, Roisin Hastings (Andrea Irvine) as admitted to hospital after a brutal attack by Corbett (Stephen Graham).
The undercover officer believed Hastings was the corrupt officer leading the AC-12 team astray and tortured Roisin whilst speaking with an Irish accent, which was heard by DS Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) and DI Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) when Corbett played them a recording of the assault.
Believing Corbett had come connection to Ireland as they claimed he had a definitive accent, Arnott and Fleming did some digging, discovering John’s brith mother was originally from Ireland, which has led many viewers to believe the undercover officer could be related to Hastings.
However, if the theories prevail as the truth, Hastings will surely be left devastated as not only would his son have beaten his wife, but he will have lost any chance of forming a relationship with him as Corbett was killed at the end of tonight’s episode of the BBC drama.

After the balaclava group, which Corbett had been leading, took hostage of a group of young girls to be used in a human trafficking ring, the undercover officer noticed how uncomfortable his associate Lisa McQueen (Rochenda Sandall) had become.
Corbett told Lisa if she trusted him, there was a way he could get her out of the gang and although she agreed, it seems she was calling his bluff as the balaclava men set John up to believe they were raping the young girls.
Knowing this would infuriate Corbett, the balaclava group were held at gunpoint by the undercover officer who only discovered he was being double-crossed too late when one of the men slit his throat.
Corbett’s death will surely reach Arnott at some point as the two men have been in close contact over the past couple of episodes and with the DS investigating John’s heritage further, he may be the one to break the news about the undercover officer’s connection to Hastings.
