Brienne of Tarth (played by Gwendoline Christie) finally made her debut in Game of Thrones season eight tonight and was quickly reunited with her former foe turned friend, Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau).
After defending the King Slayer when Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) questioned his motives for abandoning Cerseo Lannister (Lena Headey) to come fight with her enemies, the two congregated with others in the Great Hall.
Over a glass of wine or two, Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju) asked why Brienne had not been given the honour of being made a knight.
She swiftly explained it was against tradition to give the title to women and insisted she did not to be a knight.
But Tormund was persistent and turning to Briene said: “I’m no King but if I were I’d knight you 10 times over.”
“You don’t need a King, any knight can make another knight,” Jaime interjected. “I’ll prove it.”
He then pulled out his sword and approached Brienne, demanding she kneel down to be knighted before the others.
Using his blade to brush her shoulders, he proclaimed her a knight of the Seven Kingdoms, leaving a smile on her face as he did so.
The heart-warming moment caught the attention of viewers, many of whom rushed to social media sites to discuss the emotional scene.
