Train SHORTAGES leave commuters in 1970s carriages

Promised improvements to timetables due to launch next month are at risk, and cancellations have already begun.

Northern, which bore the brunt of last year’s timetable chaos, would not confirm whether any of its 101 new trains would be in service in time.

But the company insisted its planned timetable improvement was “robust and deliverable”.

Some trains were delivered but testing was suspended after fears about how they coped with sharp bends.
