The drama begins on the ITV soap when a smarting Maya throws David’s marriage proposal back in his face, declaring they will “never get married”.
David is stunned and devastated, having been convinced the pair were loved-up and ready to take their relationship to the next step.
The shopkeeper is reeling from the rejection and it’s not long before he turns to ex-wife Tracy in the middle of a club scene.
The drunken exes end up sharing a smooch and as luck would have it, Maya turns the corner at exactly the right moment.
The angry abuser is determined to get her own back on David, and secretly finds his stepson Jacob, where she can feel wanted and loved.
But in dramatic scenes, Maya is spotted cosying up to the 16-year-old by either Tracy, Leyla or Priya, and it sparks the final downfall of the village teacher.
