Celebrations will be held across England today to mark St George’s Day. However Labour tweeted a message from its official Twitter account on Monday which referenced the occasion. Other social media users were quick to mock the embarrassing tweet, which was swiftly deleted.

Yesterday Labour tweeted: “Happy St George’s Day!
“With the next Labour Government, we’ll celebrate the patron saint with a bank holiday, and bank holidays for St Patrick, St David and St Andrew too.
“Sound good? Share the news.”
The Labour Party announced last year plans to make St George’s Day a bank holiday if it comes to power.
