Senior Tories will today look at whether they can overturn the rule of a 12-month block on a new confidence vote to force Theresa May to leave just six months after she survived the last one. The Prime Minister believes she is safe from a no confidence vote until December under current rules after she faced down the same vote in before Christmas last year. But now the powerful backbench 1922 Committee have warned that the group can make its own rules amid the Brexit chaos.

It would only be allowed if a majority of 94 Tory MPs, equivalent to a 30 percent, submit a no confidence letter to Sir Graham Brady.
